The district hospital is in Mullum and it has its own public high school and a private school, a bowls club, an 18-hole golf course, the Petria Thomas Public Swimming Pool and numerous Churches within a 5-minute drive of Tallowood Ridge. Southern Cross University has two campuses within an easy drive.

Numerous community events are held in the beautifully restored Mullumbimby Civic Hall, including Dinner/ Theatre events. Join the theatre troupe and put on, or watch, a play at the Old Drill Hall. Visit the Council chambers for community debates. Visit the local Farmers Market to shop for an array of freshly grown, organic produce from the region.
